What happened

A July 2026 Legionnaires' disease cluster on Manhattan's Upper East Side (Carnegie Hill / Yorkville / Lenox Hill) has grown to 84 cases and 5 deaths (fifth death reported July 21, 2026), linked to building cooling towers. All cooling towers that tested positive for live Legionella have been cleaned and disinfected; NYC Health officials say the source of exposure has been eliminated and no new cases have been reported since July 15, 2026.
