What happened

The Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Lancaster city Bureau of Water are investigating two confirmed Legionnaires' disease cases in Lancaster County. Penn Medicine's Lancaster General Hospital treated a patient who tested positive in early February 2026; the patient was later discharged. The 446-bed Lancaster Nursing & Rehabilitation Center confirmed a second case in early March 2026 after a resident tested positive on a urine antigen test. That resident had recently received care outside the facility, so the source of exposure has not been definitively determined. Both facilities say there is no evidence of ongoing transmission within their buildings. No deaths have been reported.
