What happened

The Ohio Department of Health, the Cincinnati Health Department and the CDC investigated a Legionnaires' disease outbreak with a potential but unconfirmed association to The Christ Hospital's main campus in Cincinnati. Six cases of Legionella pneumonia were identified beginning in October 2025 and three of those patients died. The health department said its investigation has not determined whether Legionella pneumonia was the primary reason for the deaths, and that all of the people who contracted Legionnaires' had underlying medical conditions. Legionella bacteria were found in the hospital's water system; the hospital implemented additional water testing across the main campus and installed filters on all faucets and showers while testing continued.
